Nurdle Hunt: Protect Marine Life from Microplastics
Fee: AED 100/student
Suitable Age: 9 years and above
Max Capacity: 50 students per trip
Join the critical mission to protect UAE beaches and marine animals by hunting for nurdles – tiny plastic pellets that pose a big threat to our oceans. These microplastics are often mistaken for food and ingested by marine animals, causing serious harm. By collecting nurdles and recording data, students help reduce microplastic pollution and protect marine ecosystems.
Students will:
✅ Search for and collect nurdles along the beach
✅ Learn how nurdles contribute to plastic pollution
✅ Contribute data to national efforts that track microplastic hotspots
🌊 Why it matters
Nurdles are pre-production plastic pellets – the raw material for nearly all plastic products. Though tiny, they are the second largest source of microplastic litter on beaches worldwide (by weight). Marine animals often mistake them for food, leading to injury or death. By hunting and removing nurdles, students play a hands-on role in ocean conservation.
