Our food choices can make a positive difference to people and nature – improving our own health, the health of others, and the health of the planet. But over-dependence on select foods, a lack of diversity in our diets and the continued consumption of unsustainably produced items have a harmful impact on nature.

One of today’s biggest challenges is the increasing consumption of meat. Meat contributes important nutrients to the human diet, but today we eat more meat than recommended by the World Health Organisation and what is sustainable for the planet.

This Ramadan, we've partnered up with Zeina Maktabi from @upcloseandhealthy to teach you how to make a plant-based iftar meal.

A heart-warming, belly-filling WHITE BEAN & KALE SOUP
 

Ingredients:

1 medium onion

1 Carrot

1 Celery stick

 

2 cloves garlic

1 sprig Fresh rosemary

Chili flakes

2 cans broad beans

3 cups Kale

1 lemon

1 sprig Parsley

 

SWEET POTATO FALAFELS SALAD WITH A TAHINI DRESSING

Ingredients:

1 medium sweet potato

1 can chickpeas

2 cloves garlic

1 lemon

Almond flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp cumin

 

Dressing:

½ cup Tahini

Juice of ½ lemon

2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 clove garlic

Fresh mint

 

Salad:

Romaine Lettuce

3 Tomatoes

4 Cucumbers
